Mission Statement
  • This site is a dedicated touring and recreational bicycling site. We are not a road racing or extreme mountain bike site.
    Owner History
  • In 1978 a Dutch person started working with me. He biked to work and said that many people in the Netherlands did this. I tried commuting to work and liked it. Also, I found out that it only took 5 minutes longer to go across town than a car. In the 80s I did some local road racing which was a lot of fun. In the mid 90s I was downsized, started working at home as a web/host master and stopped bike riding. In 2006 my knees were so bad I was having trouble walking. The doctor told me to do low impact exercise like swimming. I decided on cycling but found it hard to get motivated. Then I came up with an idea of finding a part-time job within an hour from my location. It worked! I now ride ˝ hour to work and I can walk without supports or ski poles and there is no pain. I hope to keep doing this into my 70s. Now I would like to do longer tours. In May and June I will do a test to see if I can endure tours at 58. The tests are, from Owen Sound to Midland Ontario and back and from Owen Sound to Goderich and back. There will be a report on this site on how things went. If I survive I will attempt longer rides in the summer. My part time job does not go through the summer so all I require is a laptop with a wireless connection for my web business. In the old days I would normally have to fine an Internet café for uploading. Now I can sit on a picnic table in most parts' of Canada, get my e-mail, do my work and then upload. I can't hide from the Internet any more.
Canada's first 3' (1 Meter) Passing Law
As of May 19, 2010
Canada's first 3' (1 Meter) Passing Law was tabled yesterday as a Private Member's Bill in the Ontario legislature by NDP MPP Cheri DiNovo.

The Share the Road foundation's research at the Coalition and subsequent "Green Paper on Bicycling in Ontario" revealed the importance of safe cycling legislation to creating bicycle friendly communities across our province.

To get this law passed is going to require a sustained lobbying effort in order to convince the government to adopt this legislation. We'd like your help! Please send an email in support of the legislation to your MPP and copy them at info@sharetheroad.ca so that they can keep track of the support.

So-called 3 foot laws have been passed in 17 U.S. states as a means of educating motorists and making cycling safer in both urban and rural settings. The Bill represents an amendment to the Highway Traffic Act and would require motorists to provide at least 3 or one meter of space to cyclists when passing, and at least 5 feet space when traveling more than 50 km/hr.
